How did the Parkl team develop the state-of-the-art digital parking lot of the MOL headquarters?
"The Office of the Future," "The Greenest Office Building," "Hungary’s Smartest Building" – these are just a few phrases used to describe the MOL Campus, a landmark project not only in Budapest but across Hungary. Standing as the country’s tallest building and one of the most significant office developments in recent years, MOL Campus sets new standards in office innovation and sustainability.
The 28-storey building covers 86,000 square metres—equivalent to 12 football pitches. Yet, its massive scale is just one of its unique features. Built with sustainability at its core, MOL Campus has earned globally recognised certifications, including LEED Platinum and BREEAM Excellent, thanks to its innovative green solutions.

The headquarters accommodates over 2,500 MOL employees, making employee comfort and efficient workflows a top priority from the planning stage. International trends, along with employee feedback, helped MOL fine-tune the building’s smart service portfolio, ensuring a seamless digital office experience.
'For a project of this scale, the digital programme team has two options: they can either develop all the functions in-house or collaborate with leading companies and experts in the respective fields and services, involving them as specialists in the development and implementation. We chose this hybrid approach,' said Dóra Alexa, Digital Programme Manager of MOL Campus.
For developing a smart parking system, MOL opted for a proven market solution. That’s where Parkl came in. But what did this collaboration look like behind the scenes? Let’s take a closer look.
Smart Parking System: A Critical Component of Modern Office Buildings
When designing an office building, success goes beyond functional interiors. Mission-critical systems, like lifts, HVAC, and revolving doors, are obvious priorities. But parking systems are equally vital, especially in high-traffic locations.
'The service developed by Parkl had to cover the full operation of a four-level parking garage with nearly 1,000 spaces and 10 barriers, which is primarily used during two peak periods, a narrow morning and afternoon window. For this reason, it was essential for MOL Campus to select a system that had already been tested and proven to run smoothly at multiple similar locations,' said Péter Varga, CEO of MOL Campus.
Imagine the disruption if such a parking system failed during a weekday morning. Hundreds of employees waiting could cause 4 km-long traffic jams, paralyzing Budapest’s traffic from Kopaszi Dam to Népliget.
'Since the December 2022 opening, we haven’t experienced any major issues with the parking system. Sometimes barriers must recognise 15 vehicles within a single minute, and the system handles it flawlessly. This proves that close collaboration with Parkl during development created a stable and reliable parking solution,' added Péter Varga.
From the start, aligning technology was crucial. Both Parkl and MOL Campus digital systems use Microsoft Azure, simplifying integration and enabling the implementation of additional features such as:
Releasing fixed parking spaces for temporary use
Adjustable barrier directions during peak times
The planning phase also involved assessing employee commuting habits, especially in the post-COVID era of hybrid work. For a large organization, managing different department needs and access rights is complex, making efficient, user-friendly parking solutions essential.
The result? A state-of-the-art, comprehensive parking management system, unique in Hungary in both technology and functionality.
A User-Centric, No-Compromise Parking Experience
Parkl’s involvement from the design stage allowed the creation of a custom digital parking system tailored to employee needs and operational requirements.
'By collaborating with Parkl experts, we achieved a no-compromise solution that ensures the highest level of user experience while providing facility management with a transparent, efficient system,' said Dóra Alexa.
The Parkl Office platform was integrated into the MOL Campus app, offering both employees and administrators a powerful tool to manage parking seamlessly.

'This development has been the most significant and largest-scale project in our company’s history. We attribute our success to the fact that, despite their young age, our team members bring extensive experience and expertise, which allowed us to respond quickly and flexibly to emerging needs. We are delighted to say that we successfully solved the parking challenge in one of Hungary’s largest office developments,' said Zsolt Somogyi, CEO of Parkl.
With this experience, Parkl continues to expand in digital office parking management and e-mobility solutions, offering tailored innovations for every workplace.
