When Márk, our Development Team Leader joined the Parkl team, he never imagined that electromobility would so quickly become an accessible and everyday solution for car users. Since then, not only has his own perspective changed about this topic, but the entire industry has undergone tremendous progress in many ways. Now, electromobility is not just part of his work, as an EV driver, he experiences its advantages firsthand in his everyday life.

In our latest team interview, we asked Márk how his views on electric vehicles have evolved, what experiences influenced his decision about becoming an EV user himself, and what it has been like for him to follow the development of e-mobility at Parkl as a developer. He also gave us a behind-the-scene look into Parkl’s services and shared his vision of the future of electric transport.

If I know correctly, when you started working at Parkl, you were somewhat sceptical about electric vehicles. What were your doubts about EVs, and why was it difficult for you to identify with the trend?

NM: Around 2018, I felt that the marketing around EVs was stronger than what the technology and infrastructure of the time could actually support. For example, electric cars had much shorter ranges and charging opportunities were far more limited compared to today. So, I’d rather say that, back then, I didn’t really consider them a practical or accessible solution.

You recently bought an electric car for personal use. What made you decide to take that step?

NM: My previous car was getting old and causing more and more issues, so it was time for a change. When I started looking for a new car, it was important to find a more sustainable and cost-effective long-term option. It was after all a family decision to an electric vehicle, partly for environmental reasons, but also because of the much lower maintenance costs and because of the convenience of home charging. Over the past 7,5 years, these vehicles have evolved tremendously: ranges have increased, charging times have been significantly reduced, and the infrastructure has developed at a remarkable pace.

As a developer, you have been actively involved in building Parkl’s e-mobility services. How did you experience this process, and what was the biggest challenge for you?

NM: When I joined the company, there were only six of us in the technology team, and that was around the time we started working seriously with chargers. Back then, the whole concept still felt futuristic. There were very few EVs on the roads, and it was difficult to imagine a future dominated by electric vehicles. The biggest challenge of them all was definitely the diversity of the chargers: almost every manufacturer used a different system and communication method, so each integration became a unique technical task. But that was also the exciting part: building a completely new system from scratch.

Is there a part of Parkl’s e-mobility solutions that most people don’t see, even though it plays a key role in everyday operations?

NM: Probably the starting point of it all. We began with just a few chargers, and as e-mobility became an increasingly important part of the company’s activity, the technical and IT challenges grew with it, as did our the team. Today, our twelve-member team manages the Parkl system from a technological perspective, including charger integration, testing and maintenance, all crucial to ensuring we deliver the highest quality. We now operate thousands of chargers nationwide, which requires an immense amount of technical background work that users typically don’t see.

You were also involved in developing Parkl’s new roaming service, which allows users to charge at multiple points, even abroad, using only a single app. What was it like to take part in such an innovative project?

NM: Developing the roaming feature was particularly exciting because we knew it would directly make users’ lives easier. We often heard complaints from EV drivers that they had to use a separate app for each charging provider. With this development, we made it possible to charge simply from one app at over 100,000 charging points, even across different networks and countries. This is a huge convenience not only for drivers but also for companies, as it simplifies administration and fleet management.

Now that you’re also driving an electric car, how do you view electromobility today, and where do you think it’s heading?

NM: It’s now clear that electromobility is both our present and our future. There are more EVs on the roads than ever, both newly bought and used, and more companies are switching in some cases completely to electric fleets. This is especially important because corporate vehicles eventually appear on the used car market, making them accessible to more private everyday drivers as well. And the development doesn’t stop with passenger cars, we’re already seeing electric models among vans and trucks too.

What would you say to those who are still sceptical about electric vehicles?

NM: I think there’s no need to be skeptical , from my own experience, electric driving is much simpler than most people think. The common belief that you have to plan for long charging times and frequent stops are becoming decreasingly the case, especially with today’s rapidly expanding charging infrastructure. It may require a little extra planning, but in return it’s far more convenient and cost-effective for everyday use.

Márk’s story shows that sometimes change is just a matter of perspective. What once seemed like a distant, uncertain vision of the future has now become an integral part of everyday life. Through his work in Parkl’s development team, he contributes every day to making the benefits of e-mobility more widely accessible. The combination of innovation, new technologies, and teamwork enables Parkl to turn challenges into real solutions.

At Parkl, our goal is to create a digital electromobility ecosystem that not only makes mobility more seamless but also supports sustainability. We are especially proud of colleagues like Márk, who shape the future not only through their technical expertise but also through their curiosity and openness, helping us move towards a more sustainable mobility landscape.
