A new chapter has opened in Hungary’s electric vehicle (EV) market this year: according to Villanyautósok.hu’s October analysis, two-thirds of Hungarian EV buyers now opt for a used model.

Based on calculations using data from the Ministry of Interior, it was revealed that in September this year, 2,383 purely electric cars were registered in Hungary, while only 905 were sold. Comparing these figures shows that around 62% of the EVs registered in the country were imported second-hand.
As this year’s statistics also highlight, the EV segment is no longer merely a premium luxury category but has become an increasingly accessible everyday mode of transport for a wider audience, where cost efficiency plays an ever‑greater role. As shown by Parkl’s own user survey conducted this autumn, more than 70% of EV drivers switched to electric mobility specifically because of its lower operating costs.
It is therefore no surprise that more electric cars can be seen on Hungarian roads. The green licence plate statistics published monthly by the Ministry of Interior clearly illustrate the growth trajectory of domestic e‑mobility. In 2025, an average of 2,350 electric cars were registered per month, representing a 42% increase compared to the same period last year. This dynamic growth suggests that the expansion of the EV market is not a short‑term trend but more so part of a longer‑term transformation. The rapidly expanding customer base, whether for private use or corporate fleets, is closely linked to the development of the EV charging infrastructure.
Since 2023, alongside the rise in new EV sales, their leasing has also surged. Soon, these typically well‑maintained vehicles that are mostly used in corporate fleets are expected to trigger another wave of electrification on the used car market. In the United States, the leasing of new electric cars increased by 355% in 2023, and by a further 88% by September 2024. Based on this trend, the number of returning lease vehicles may grow by up to 230% by 2026. This means that within a few years, a significant number of used EVs could enter the market, offering not only a wider selection but also reliable, well‑documented vehicles at competitive prices. While the price of new EVs continues to fall and technology advances rapidly, the used market also presents an excellent alternative for those planning to switch to electric. Corporate EVs returning from lease therefore represent a major opportunity for e‑mobility: they make electric driving more accessible to a broader audience, accelerating the green transition in transport.

As used electric vehicles become more widespread, user needs are becoming increasingly diverse. Thanks to the expanding range, anyone can now become an EV owner. This creates the need for charging networks and operators that provide consistently available, easy‑to‑use electric mobility services for all EV drivers.
One of the most important requirements for the expansion of electric mobility is the accessibility and usability of the charging infrastructure. For corporate users who play a key role in the growth of electromobility, it is essential not only to ensure seamless workplace and home charging but also to provide reliable charging solutions on the road. Responding to market developments and user feedback, Parkl has introduced its latest service, called: Roaming Charging. Thanks to this service, this enables EV drivers to access more than 100,000 charging points across the largest domestic and Central‑Eastern European networks through a single application. This development, remarkable even at the European level, elevates the convenience of electric driving, whether for corporate or private use. Reduced administration, more transparent accounting, and a simpler charging process together enhance operational efficiency and the user experience. With Parkl’s Roaming Charging, the everyday use of electric vehicles becomes not only an environmentally conscious choice but also a truly convenient and economically rational decision.
With its digital solutions, whether in commercial buildings or public car parks, Parkl contributes to ensuring that sufficient charging points are always available for green‑plated vehicles. Our goal is to provide our partners with the full parking and charging infrastructure, from installation to operation, enabling their end users to manage their mobility needs easily through a single application.
Parkl’s services provide an effective solution by managing the entire lifecycle of EV charging infrastructure: from planning and installation to operation and maintenance.
The Hungarian electromobility market is no longer the domain of a narrow, innovation‑oriented group: it is becoming accessible to an increasingly broad range of private and corporate users. The shift in customer demand towards used electric cars is not a temporary trend but the future of mobility. The foundation of this progress is a reliable, easily accessible and user‑friendly charging infrastructure. With its integrated solutions - including Roaming charging - Parkl offers a unified digital ecosystem that simplifies the everyday use of EVs for every market participant. In this way, Parkl not only follows but actively shapes the development of electromobility in Hungary and the wider region.
