What lies ahead for companies in 2025? Fleet electrification for corporate sustainability efforts

Companies continue to play the biggest role in the development of e-mobility, alongside motorists of course. As corporate electrification in Hungary enters a new phase, the question is not why, but how.

Mandatory ESG reports will soon catch up with small and medium-sized enterprises after large companies, which makes the achievement of sustainability goals even more urgent. Recent research by Parkl revealed that around 70% of large domestic companies consider electric cars to be an obvious means of achieving sustainability goals, at least at a parent company level.

In addition to sustainability efforts, however, electric cars also offer a number of economic advantages for companies. The fuel costs of EVs are a fraction of their internal combustion counterparts, and they also require much less maintenance. It is therefore not surprising that, according to the statistics published by HVG recently, about four-fifths of newly sold battery electric cars in the first half of 2024 were company purchases. In addition, company electric cars spend increasing amounts of time on the roads: Parkl's end-user survey revealed that EV users cover more than a third of the daily distance with fleet e-cars than with internal combustion ones.

"E-mobility is no longer just a future goal for companies. Based on our partner survey this year, electric vehicles are already present in nearly seventy percent of corporate fleets. According to our estimate, the proportion of rechargeable cars in company fleets may be close to 20%, ” said Gábor Tóth, the Chief Operating Officer of Parkl. "Although companies are paying more and more attention to the development of workplace charging infrastructure, the introduction of smart charging solutions has not yet kept pace with the spread of electric vehicles."

More than 40% of the companies participating in Parkl's survey have already been asked to provide charging at the workplace by employees. This is primarily requested for convenience, especially since in many cases employees do not have the opportunity to set up a charging station at home. At the same time, while the demand for charging at the workplace is clearly increasing, two-thirds of companies still do not offer this option on their premises. Workplace charging however is not only convenient for employees, but also offers a much more reliable solution when it comes to data collection for accounting and ESG reporting purposes.

"The market feedback given at our fleet electrification workshop this October also confirmed to us that companies are no longer questioning the need for electrification, but wondering how to involve them in their everyday operation," - stressed Balázs Magyar, Parkl's Business Development Manager. "The most frequently asked questions among our partners are about optimal charging speed, capacity management, invoicing and ESG reporting. Fortunately, these are all challenges for which reliable, data-based solutions already exist.”

As electric cars become more and more integrated into our everyday lives, the role of the office building is also changing. EV charging is slowly becoming a standard service, such as booking a table in the office or managing the air conditioning. Thanks to the Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology that has already been introduced in some countries, electric cars will eventually become not only energy consumers, but also moving power storages for the office building by connecting to the grid and providing extra capacity. Such and similar innovations bring the future closer, where companies will be able to be at the forefront of energy efficiency and sustainability everywhere.

Parkl Digital Technologies is committed to supporting companies on the road to sustainable mobility with digital services. With the operation of nearly 1,000 charging points and the digitisation of parking spaces, Parkl has become a key player in corporate mobility in Hungary.
